Membership of the Order

Membership of the International Knightly Order of St George is offered to ladies and gentlemen of sound mind who are practising Christians over the age of 21, of exemplary social and moral reputation and living honourably. A personal invitation to join the Order normally follows nomination by two serving members.

All members irrespective of race, gender or ability share the equality of the sons and daughters of God by virtue of their common baptism. They are appointed as Knights and Dames and invested with the insignia and mantle indicating their state by the Grand Prior or his delegate in a ceremony held in a consecrated place. The neck decoration is a cross flory bearing an oval panel depicting the mounted figure of St George slaying the dragon, which is suspended from the Holy Crown of St Stephen of Hungary (distinguished by its shape and the tilted cross which surmounts it). Within the Order, the title Chevalier or Dame and the postnominals KStG or DStG are adopted upon investiture.

For distinguished service, individuals may be promoted to the rank of Knight Commander (KCStG) or Dame Commander (DCStG). The supreme honour of the Order is the Grand Cross (GCStG), which is awarded to show esteem for high dignitaries and for exceptional service to the Order.

The International Knightly Order of St George is under the spiritual protection of Rev. Canon Andrew White ("The Vicar of Baghdad") who succeeded Rt Rev Dr Michael Nazir-Ali GCStG, Lord Bishop of Rochester in this position in May 2011.
