After successful completion of a six month selection course, in 1988 he transferred to the Small Arms School Corps. His career culminated in being selected to establish a new post in the Sultan of Oman’s Military Academy (equivalent to Sandhurst). In 2005 Dave was offered the position as a Yeoman Warder (Beefeater) at the Tower of London and after more than 26 years of military service, he resigned from the army to take up this exciting new appointment.

During his military career Dave was a volunteer with the National Parks in Wales and The National Trust in Suffolk.  He was also involved in many fundraising events to raise awareness and much needed funds for those less fortunate in society. This included such events as:
  • The Cape March – A two day 55 mile march in full military equipment around Table Mountain in South Africa – Raising money to fund new equipment in the children’s ward of the local Welsh hospital.
  • The Lowe Alpine Western Isles Challenge – A three day race across the Western Isles of Scotland – Raising funds to pay for a hyperbaric chamber for a local toddler who was severely brain damaged in a domestic accident in Suffolk.
  • Tough Guy – An arduous cross-country marathon and obstacle course – Raising funds for the British Legion.
Since coming back to live in London, Dave continues with his fundraising efforts especially for military charities such as Help for Heroes and the Military Wing of Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham.  He was also a team member in the Rhino Charge, an international cross-country driving competition in Kenya to raise funds for conservation work in the Aberdare National Park.

Dave is also involved in working with the school leavers in the East End of London with the transition from school into the world of work.  This has involved day long group discussions in schools with Year 11 students and mentoring individual students with the preparation of CVs, job applications and the job interview process.

Dave and his wife Judith are Foster Carers for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and at the time of writing they are caring for a 9 month old baby they have had since birth.
